CALL News

New Name:  From now you might notice CALL also being referred to as CALLplus.
In for a penny...:  Sometimes it is hard to put a figure on what buys what in a charity that provides services rather than buying ‘things’ such as medical equipment. However we at CALL believe it is important that you know how your money is used to support people with cancer and other life-limiting illness, their carers and families.

A Blossoming Tribute – The CALL Maguire Rose

CALL has planted ten roses across Greater Manchester – one in each borough of the county -  to celebrate the life of one of its founder members and pay respect to all those affected by cancer in the county.

The vibrant red rose has been specially grown and named in memory of Professor Peter Maguire, who was from Bolton, and will take pride of place in the parks as a lasting tribute to Peter’s work for the charity.

Karen Mercer, communications and development manager for CALL, said: “The CALL Maguire rose was created to celebrate the life of Professor Peter Maguire, a wonderful man who helped shape CALL from its early form to the thriving charity it is today, and also to recognise all those across Greater Manchester who are affected by cancer.

“We worked closely with the Parks and Mayoral departments of each borough council and we would like to thank them for their tremendous support, without which this would not have been possible.”

Tom Brown, CALL President, said: “Peter Maguire’s contribution to CALL was enormous. From the very beginning Peter was involved in providing specialist listening skills training to enable our volunteers to help those affected by cancer. Throughout the years he continued his association with CALL, encouraging, giving his expertise and eventually joining the executive committee as chair and finally as President.
