Meet Our Trustees
What We Do
The CALL Management Committee is a team of volunteers who provide governance to the charity. They ensure that CALL complies with charity and employment law, is sustainable as an organisation and financially viable.
CALL Chairman - David Lambert
Having acted for several years as the Company Secretary, David, Senior Partner at Hague Lambert Solicitors, decided to heed the plea from the Trustees to join them in this different capacity.
Due to the fact that some members of his family, as well as close work colleagues, have lived with cancer, he has an empathy for all that CALL is doing.
He is also a Trustee of other charities and has acted professionally in forming and advising those charities.
Call President & Company Secretary - Tom Brown
In the early 1980s as a reult of his personal experiances with Hodgkin's disease Tom helped to start CALL. In 1985 he helped start the National Conference of Cancer Self Help Groups and worked as its organiser for seven years. Tom currently works as a freelance computer programmer.
He accepted the offer to become joint president of CALL as he believed it has become a most worthwhile organisation and is proud to be associated with it, and will do what he can to promote it.
CALL Exectuitive Treasurer - Bob Pigeon
Bob Pigeon is a Chartered Accountant, who has just retired after 20 years as Group Financial Director of a food manufacturer.
With the benefits of the sale of his small shareholding he can now afford to give his time to CALL.
CALL Trustee - Carol Mula
Carole holds the post of Macmillan Nurse Consultant in Palliative Care at Christie Hospital and Manchester Primary Care Trust. She has a Masters in Medical Ethics and also a Masters in Management and Leadership. She is an Editorial Board member for the International Journal of Palliative Nursing. Her published work includes articles on nursing leadership, non-medical prescribing and communicating with dying patients.
Carole is Vice-Chair of the Manchester Palliative Care Forum, this was established to enable collaboration between palliative care professionals and services across the city of Manchester. CALL is an active member of this forum.
The Forum’s aim is to work towards the provision of the best achievable palliative care for patients and families, with equity of access to services across Manchester. Carole therefore has a global view of the needs of patients with cancer and palliative care and offers a perspective in terms of developing and collaborating services to meet the needs of patients and their carers.
CALL Trustee - Philip Eagle
Philip Eagle is a Chartered Accountant who is the tax partner at Hallidays a Stockport based Accountancy Firm. Philip has recently agreed to take on the Honorary Treasurer’s role after a short period on the CALL Management Committee as a general trustee. His accounting background together with experience as a trustee of various client family trusts should be helpful in this role.
As a former client Philip found CALL’s assistance invaluable when his wife Geraldine (a fellow trustee) became ill.
Philip also helps out as an assistant cub leader at his local scout group.
CALL Trustee - Geraldine Newman
Geraldine Newman qualified as an Occupational Therapist at Salford and after working in various hospital posts then became a care manager at Christie Hospital where she was involved in sourcing support for cancer sufferers and their families. She left Christie’s following her daughter’s birth.
Geraldine was diagnosed with cancer and was supported by Christie’s and also appreciated CALL’s assistance at this difficult time.
Since then she has successfully completed a degree in Health and Social care at the Open University and has been a puppy walker for the guide dogs for the blind and has socialised 5 guide dogs. Currently she is boarding Guide dog puppies for other puppy walkers as well as working as a lunchtime assistant at a local school.
Geraldine will be able to bring her varied experience as a service user and provider of cancer care and knowledge of associated health and social care issues to the role of trustee for CALL.
