Volunteer Information
Volunteers are essential to CALL as they deliver our services to those affected by cancer in the Greater Manchester area. There are various volunteering opportunities at CALL:
- Home-Support Volunteers: support clients in their own homes where necessary and/or accompany them to hospital appointments, social events, shopping and many other activities.
- Fundraising Volunteers: assist with or organise fundraising activities, events and 'spreading the word' about CALL.
- Telephone Volunteers: work on a rota system so that the listening-line is covered on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays (including Christmas and New Year) between 7.30pm and 10.30pm
- Tranport Support Volunteers: drivers with their own cars to help get clients to and from CALL 'drop ins', hospital/medical appointments and to stay with clients if required.
It is possible for some volunteers to combine more than one volunteering role.

What qualitites does CALL look for in a volunteer?
The most important qualities are reliability, flexibility where possible, a willingness to listen and a non-judgemental attitude. All volunteers are fully trained and have a manager based at the branch for which they are recruited and there are regular support and information meetings.
All volunteers are legally required to undergo Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks before undertaking any role with CALL.

Are vounteers given any expenses?
Yes, volunteers are reimbursed for out of pocket expenses. Usually special forms are filled in outlining any expenses incurred and we ask that receipts be kept where appropriate.
