Linda is married with young son. She was originally a volunteer, then co-ordinator
of Helpline before becoming Volunteers’ Manager for CALL South. She
is particularly interested in developing computer systems to maximize the
organisation’s efficiency and establishing a network of informal drop-in
sessions. Her hobbies include co-ordinating the football league in which her
son plays.

Manager North Manchester
Janice worked in the NHS for 30 years before joining CALL in 1998. She started
her career as an office junior at the royal Oldham hospital eventually progressing
to Assistant Personnel manager for Greater Manchester Ambulance Service. She
became a graduate member of the Institute of Personnel and development in
1991. She feels her people related skills are put to good use in her present
role and considers herself extremely privileged to share a part in people’s
lives.

Ann worked for The Parker Pen Co as a Sales Consultant and later became a
Retail Development Representative for the north of England. In 1997 Ann became
a volunteer with CALL originally working on the help line, then in 2000 she
also became a home support volunteer. In 2002 Ann was offered the position
of Volunteer Manager. Ann says she loves her job and feels very lucky to have
finally found her niche in life.

Lynne began her nursing career in 1971 and was successful in gaining the RGN
and RSCN in 1975. She remained in nursing until 1998. She became a volunteer
with CALL in 1993 and took up the Volunteers Manager post in Trafford in November
1998.

Manager Listening Line
Jan managed optical practices in Liverpool before being married. She then
moved to Leeds were she became the area manager for a contact lens fitting
service. When her daughter started school, Jan also became a student at Manchester
University, graduating in 2002. Having nursed her mother with cancer, she
volunteered at Manchester Royal Infirmary Cancer Information and Support Centre
were she was introduced to CALL. She joined CALL as a volunteer in 2003 and
later in the year became CALL's helpline administrator.

Manager Stockport
Carol joined CALL Stockport in 1990 as a volunteer and became a member of
staff in June 1994. She says has thoroughly enjoyed every part of her work
and made many friends. Carol feels that the worse part of her job is seeing
how many people are trying to cope with having cancer on their own. The best
part is being able to help tackle some of the problems. Having been in this
situation, Carol says she knows how important this is.
